Partisan Primary Election Is Tuesday
New Glarus-area voters head to the polls Tuesday, Aug. 11, for Wisconsin’s partisan primary, with statewide, congressional, legislative and county races on the ballot — including two Democratic candidates with strong New Glarus ties.
Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday. The primary will determine which party candidates advance to Wisconsin’s Nov. 3 general election. Anyone in line by 8 p.m. is permitted to vote.
For New Glarus-area voters, offices on the ballot include governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, secretary of state, state treasurer, Wisconsin’s 2nd Congressional District, the 17th State Senate District and the 50th Assembly District. Green County voters will also see county races for sheriff, coroner and clerk of circuit court. There are no referendum questions on the Green County primary ballot.
Two of the legislative contests have particularly local connections. Corrine Hendrickson, a former New Glarus School Board member and New Glarus childcare advocate, is one of three Democrats seeking the nomination in Senate District 17. She faces Jenna Jacobson and Lisa White.
Bill Oemichen, a longtime Town of New Glarus resident and current New Glarus School Board president, is one of three Democrats seeking the nomination in Assembly District 50. Oemichen faces Bryna Caves and Josh Mittness in Tuesday’s primary.
