Construction is well underway on Prairie Haus Phase II in New Glarus, where crews continue clearing the Elmer Road property and preparing the site for excavation and installation of the building’s foundation.

Heavy equipment arrived at the site last week, and crews began clearing and grubbing the property Monday. The work removes trees, brush, roots, stumps and other material so the site can be graded and prepared for the next stages of construction.

The activity is a major visible step for the approximately $11 million senior housing project planned next to the existing Prairie Haus building at 1001 Elmer Road.

Although construction has already started, a private ceremonial Prairie Haus Senior groundbreaking is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 20, outdoors at the construction site.
