Primrose Board Could Make Key EMS Decision Monday

Months of EMS discussions could reach a turning point Monday in Primrose, where supervisors may act on its EMS service agreement while also taking up fire department costs, zoning concerns and several other town matters.

Primrose Board Could Make Key EMS Decision Monday

TOWN OF PRIMROSE, Wis. — The Town of Primrose Board of Supervisors could make a pivotal decision Monday, Oct. 5, on emergency medical services as it meets at 7:30 p.m. at Town Hall, 8468 County Highway A. The agenda authorizes discussion and possible action on EMS services, service agreements and related matters.

The item comes after months of review by the Town of Primrose and a steady contraction of the municipal service base for New Glarus Area EMS. The Village and Town of New Glarus previously ended their agreements, while the Town of York voted Sept. 8 to leave the service at the end of 2026 and seek membership in the Sugar River EMS District. The Town of Perry followed Sept. 21.

That leaves Primrose and the Town of Mount Pleasant as the remaining municipalities still weighing their relationships with New Glarus Area EMS. Primrose officials have been examining alternatives, including Sugar River EMS, and members of the Town Board attended a Sugar River EMS board meeting Sept. 17 in New Glarus.

If Primrose decides Monday to leave New Glarus Area EMS, Mount Pleasant would become the last remaining municipal partner still considering its course for 2027. Mount Pleasant is expected to meet Oct. 12, putting the two town meetings just five days apart and potentially making them the final major decisions in the months-long reshaping of ambulance coverage around New Glarus.
