Highway 69 Update: Detour Enters Second Week

With Highway 69 now closed to through traffic, project officials say next week’s work will focus on culverts north of County NN and near Exeter Crossing, concrete at the County C roundabout and continued bridge and turn-lane work.

Highway 69 Update: Detour Enters Second Week

Highway 69 has now completed its first week closed to through traffic between Monroe and New Glarus, and the official detour remains in place using Highway 11 at Monroe, Highway 81 to Argyle, Highway 78 to Blanchardville and Highway 39 to New Glarus.

The detour is expected to remain in place until late August. The overall Highway 69 project is expected to continue into the fall, with completion previously listed for Nov. 1, weather and construction progress permitting.

The first week of the full closure brought mixed traffic effects. In Blanchardville, residents and business owners largely reported that the posted detour has not produced the noticeable surge in traffic some expected on Main Street and Highway 78, although some said they have seen more semitrailers and other large trucks passing through the village.

At the same time, the lack of a major traffic increase in Blanchardville suggests many passenger vehicles and smaller work trucks are avoiding the official detour and using shorter, unofficial routes, including County Highways N and J.
