The Village of New Glarus will hold a special meeting Wednesday, July 29, to hear public opinions about allowing all-terrain vehicles and utility-terrain vehicles on streets within the village limits.

The public listening session begins at 6 p.m. in the Community Room at Village Hall, 319 Second St. No formal vote or proposed ordinance is listed on the agenda, meaning the meeting is only intended to gather public input before the Village Board determines whether or how to proceed.

The discussion is expected to draw strong opinions from residents, business owners and others who may disagree over whether ATV and UTV traffic would benefit local businesses or conflict with the character of a community and its tourism.

The meeting comes several weeks after Aaron Skogen, vice president of the Pecatonica Valley ATV Club of Monticello, approached the village and asked officials to consider the issue. His request prompted the village to schedule the listening session and formally begin a discussion that surrounding municipalities have already confronted.
