When the first Swiss settlers founded New Glarus in 1845, just 108 immigrants carved out a small colony along the Little Sugar River. Nearly 180 years later, that settlement of log cabins and dairy barns has grown into a thriving village of more than 2,200 residents — and it continues to grow, slowly but steadily, one new subdivision and apartment building at a time.
