New Glarus Board to Consider Public Wi-Fi Service Downtown

A proposed free public Wi-Fi network, a liquor license tied to new ownership at the Ott Haus property, a Puempel’s façade grant and possible action on a nuisance property are among the items before the New Glarus Village Board on July 15.

New Glarus Board to Consider Public Wi-Fi Service Downtown

The New Glarus Village Board will consider bringing free public Wi-Fi to portions of downtown when it meets Wednesday, July 15, at 6 p.m. in the Village Hall Board Room, 319 Second St.

The proposal is part of a Green County Development Corporation initiative using remaining Green County American Rescue Plan Act funds earmarked for broadband. Wendy Flanagan of the development corporation is scheduled to present the project to the board.

Under the preliminary plan, the new New Glarus Public Library would serve as the network’s anchor. Three Wi-Fi units would be installed on the outside of the library, with another unit placed on a light pole at First Street and Fifth Avenue to extend coverage into part of downtown.
