New Glarus School Levy Could Rise 4.5%, Tax Rate Expected to Remain Flat
The New Glarus School District will hold its annual meeting Aug. 24, where electors will consider a $9.46 million property tax levy, a balanced 2026-27 operating budget and another authorization allowing the board to purchase real estate.
The New Glarus School District will ask voters attending its annual meeting Monday, Aug. 24, to approve a $9.46 million property tax levy for the 2026-27 school year as the district prepares for a sizable shift in how its operating costs are funded.
The meeting begins at 7:15 p.m. in the New Glarus High School Library/Media Center, Room 183, 1701 Second Street. A Zoom option is also listed in the district’s meeting packet.
The proposed total school levy is $9,455,935, up $405,152, or 4.48%, from $9,050,783 for 2025-26. Despite the increase, the district projects its total school tax rate will remain at $9.72 per $1,000 of equalized value.
The district’s equalized property value is projected to increase 4.55%, from approximately $930.8 million to $973.2 million, helping offset the effect of the higher levy on the overall tax rate.
