Ultimate July 4th Grill-Out, New Glarus Style
From Hoesly’s brats and New Glarus Bakery buns to local cheese, beer brats, grilled corn, brandy Old Fashioneds and a New Glarus s’more, this hometown menu gives the Fourth of July cookout a distinctly local flavor for family and friends.
The Fourth of July grill-out is already a Wisconsin tradition, but in New Glarus, the menu can carry a little extra hometown flavor.
The ultimate New Glarus July 4th grill-out starts with the obvious essentials: good brats, cold beer, local cheese, fresh buns and enough side dishes and desserts to keep people grazing from the time the grill is lit until the fireworks begin.
Start With the Cheese
Before the brats hit the grill, the table should start with a proper Wisconsin cheese spread.
A New Glarus version could include Swiss, cheddar and Butterkase from Chalet Cheese Haus; Muenster, Golden Swiss and Dill Havarti from Decatur Dairy; and Colby and Smoked Habanero from Silver & Lewis Cheese Coop. Serve the cheese with crackers, apple slices, pickles and mustard for a nod to Swiss tradition.
