School Board Approves Library Bus Stop, Student Skills Pilot
The New Glarus School Board approved a new public library bus stop and a middle school skills pilot Monday while also examining concerns that Wisconsin's decades-old school funding formula puts some districts at a disadvantage.
The New Glarus School Board approved several student-focused initiatives Monday night, including the addition of the new public library as an official bus stop and a middle school pilot program aimed at improving organizational and life skills.
Board members also spent considerable time discussing Wisconsin's school funding system following a recent regional meeting on education finance in Monroe, describing the issue as one of the most significant long-term challenges facing school districts across the state.
The meeting began with a tour of the district's transportation facilities before board members returned to the middle/high school for regular business.
Among the night's action items was approval of adding the new New Glarus Public Library as a stop under the district's Unusually Hazardous Transportation plan. District officials said students already utilized the previous library location and the change updates transportation routes to reflect the library's new home.
