Community Update: 7/2/2026

This weekend, communities across the country will celebrate America’s 250th anniversary, a milestone that invites both reflection and gratitude. For New Glarus, it is a chance to consider how a small Swiss-founded village fits into the larger American story — a story shaped by immigration, hard work, local traditions, civic life and the steady efforts of people who built communities one generation at a time.

The 250th anniversary is not only about looking back. It is also about looking ahead with hope. From family gatherings to fireworks, parades and quiet moments of remembrance, this weekend offers an opportunity to celebrate the promise of America and the many ways that promise continues to be renewed in places like New Glarus. Happy 4th of July, everyone.

What We’re Working On

With the Highway 69 detour scheduled to begin July 13, we’re preparing a closer look at the ripple effects of the Highway 69 reconstruction on travel, traffic patterns, local businesses, and daily life in and around New Glarus. It is one of those stories that goes beyond orange barrels and road signs, because the impacts will likely be felt well beyond the construction zone itself.

New Glarus still requires a permit for pool tables, and we’re taking a closer look at whether that ordinance feels like a relic of the past. The story will explore how the rule works, why it is still on the books, and whether similar requirements still exist elsewhere.

A local business has found a new home, and we’ll be sharing more about the move next week. For now, consider this a preview of a story about change, growth, and a familiar name settling into a new space.

We’re also working on an update about efforts to build a new pickleball complex in New Glarus and where things stand right now. With strong local interest in the project, we know many readers are eager for a clearer sense of what progress has been made and what may come next.

We’ll have full coverage of the Monticello Homecoming, one of the summer’s signature community events in a neighboring town with plenty of local crossover. Expect a look at the festivities, the crowds, and the moments that help make hometown celebrations like this endure.

Though track and field is still a relatively new sport in New Glarus, two brothers are excelling at a state level and turning heads in the process. We’re working on a story about talent, momentum, and what their success says about the growth of the program.

It has now been one year since Kelsey Jenson began serving as Village Administrator in New Glarus, and we plan to sit down with her to talk about that first year on the job. What she has learned, what has stood out, and what she sees ahead for the village.

We’re also preparing a feature on the hidden treasures inside New Glarus’ Chalet of the Golden Fleece. Some places are easy to pass by without realizing what they hold, and this story will take a closer look inside one of the community’s more intriguing spaces.

The Green County Fair is getting closer, and we’ll have a preview of what visitors can expect this year. From exhibits and entertainment to traditions that return year after year, it is one of the landmark events of the local summer calendar.

Colony Brands, known to many also as Swiss Colony, is turning 100 years old, and we’re taking a look back at the company’s history and its New Glarus connection. It is a story about a major business with deep regional ties and a name that has long been familiar in this area.

Our June real estate report is also on the way, with a look at which New Glarus properties changed hands during the month. As always, it offers a snapshot of the local market and another way to track what is happening in the community.

The Canter Inn now has new event space available for special occasions, and we’ll be sharing more about what that includes. It should be a useful story for anyone planning gatherings, celebrations, or community events and looking for options close to home.

Something We Noticed

It seems hardly a week goes by without seeing another nonprofit, community project or worthy cause somewhere in the region or across Wisconsin benefiting from a gift from Only In Wisconsin Giving, the charitable arm of New Glarus Brewing Company. The numbers are impressive. In each of the past three years, the foundation has given away roughly half a million dollars. Each year. That's no small potatoes. That is real money helping real causes, from local needs close to home to organizations doing important work across the state.

It is also a reminder that the success of New Glarus Brewing Company reaches far beyond a bottle, can or frosty mug. Those gifts are made possible by the hard work of the brewery’s employees, the generosity and vision of Dan and Deb Carey, and the employee-owners who help make the company what it is. In a time when community support is often talked about more than practiced, Only In Wisconsin Giving is quietly putting substantial dollars behind that idea, week after week, cause after cause.

New Glarus 360 Adds Real Estate Section

New Glarus 360 has launched a new Real Estate section to bring local housing, property and market coverage together in one place. The section will include featured homes for sale in the greater New Glarus area, local rental properties, real estate agent and company profiles, monthly sales transaction reports, and useful articles for both home buyers and sellers.

Real estate has long been one of those topics that draws local curiosity, and for good reason. People want to know what homes are selling for, what is coming on the market, what is happening with local property values and how the market is changing. By giving real estate its own dedicated section on New Glarus 360, we hope to make that information easier to find while also creating a place where local agents, sellers, landlords and readers can connect.
